Yesterday on NBC Nightly News, speaking to Brian Williams, former President Jimmy Carter said "I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African-American. I live in the South, and I've seen the South come a long way, and I've seen the rest of the country that shares the South's attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African-Americans. That racism inclination still exists, and I think it's bubbled up to the surface because of belief among many white people -- not just in the South but around the country -- that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country. It's an abominable circumstance, and it grieves me and concerns me very deeply."
So true. And so blatantly obvious.
Of course, the right wing denies that they have ever said anything racist or have ever behaved in a racist manner, bless their sweet hearts, butter wouldn't melt in their mouths.
Keith Olbermann reminded us of a few recent right wing racist transgressions against Obama on his last show:
Rush Limbaugh's Barack the Magic Negro song and his & Halfrican American comment.Congressman Westmoreland of Georgia calling Mr. & Mrs. Obama "uppity."The Chaffey Community Republican Women, a California group, issued Obama Food Stamps showing Obama as a donkey with watermelon and chicken.Rep. Geoff Davis of KY said "That boy's finger does not need to be on the button."
The other day Glenn Beck the racist called Obama a racist, if you can believe it. "This guy is, I believe, a racist," he said. Beck has very deservedly lost, to date, 62 advertisers because of his racist comment against President Obama.
But Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, Neal Boortz are all overt racists, not just against African Americans, but against any Americans who are different from their own white, mostly Protestant selves, and corporate America shouldn't advertise on their shows, either. If you enjoy listening to these kind of despicable racists, you may have gone over to the dark side yourself. Think about that.
